Services Provided by Blue Sky Cable

I believe in keeping it simple:
There are no hidden fees, no unexpected charges, and no compilcated packages.
The price you see is the price you pay.

With Cable Television, you don’t need a “box” sitting on top for each TV in the house.
You can connect as many TV sets as you like, for no additional monthly fees.
You don’t have to use a special remote control.

A Little Bit of Fine Print
Just a little.  Seriously.

One of the certainties of life is taxes.  Your monthly bill can vary if changes occur to the way taxes and fees are calculated based on mandates from the relevant government agencies.  If changes like this occur, we’ll notify you on your bill with an explanation of the changes.  We don’t like surprises.

Billing/Payment/Disconnect Policy: I hope to change this to make it more sensible — “simplify, man” — Your bill is due on the 25th, or 15 days after the postmark, whichever is later.  I try to have them in your hands by the first of the month, but that’s something I’m still ramping up towards.

There’s a 5 day “super-secret” grace period.  On the 1st of the month, late charges will be applied (eventually!  but no late charges until I get my billing all settled out and get the bill in your hands in a timely fashion each and every month) and a reminder notice is mailed out.  On the 5th of the following month, if your payment has not been received and/or we haven’t heard from you to make payment arrangements, your service will be disconnected.

If we come to disconnect your service, you can pay the technician to avoid disconnect; however, a “door collection fee” of $25 applies.  If we disconnect you and pay later to reestablish service, a $25 reconnect fee applies.  Returned checks may be presented electronically for payment, and a $30 returned check charge applies.

Theft of cable TV service is a felony and tampering with cable TV infrastructure is also a crime, and will be reported to the appropriate authorities.  If you believe your cable connection has been tampered with by another party — a previous tenant, owner, or a vandal for example — please call us so that we can repair the damage at no charge to you, and with no legal action.  This will not only ensure more reliable service, but also will help you avoid the appearance of tampering at a later date.  Cutting or damaging a cable TV security seal is subject to a fine of $100 or as allowed by franchise terms from the city.

If you are receiving “free” cable TV or Internet, the most likely reason is that the previous owners of this company neglected to follow through with a disconnect order, or a technician failed to do the actual disconnect work.  In the industry, these are jokingly referred to as  “coffee shop disconnects” — it seems like the technician must have just sat in the coffee shop all morning and marked his disconnect orders as “complete” without doing the actual work.    It is imperative that if you are receiving “free” services to which you don’t subscribe, that you call me so that we can either establish an account for you, or come out and properly complete the disconnect order.  If you contact me under these circumstances, I personally guarantee that you will not be accused of theft, and that your installation and/or cable modem charges will be waived, as a way of thanking you for your honesty.

We bill on a “month in advance” basis.  This means the bill you receive on December 1, due December 25 (for now), is for service in the month of December, and the bill will indicate this.

Billing is no longer prorated — all bills are for full months, but you do not have to pay for your first partial month of service.  If you sign up on February 20, under the old system, you would receive a bill on March 1 for all of March plus 1/3 of February.  Under the new system, the days in February are free.  On the other hand, if you move out or disconnect on July 20, you don’t get 1/3 of a month refunded.  It keeps the math simple.

Your first bill will include installation charges if applicable — but — under our current promotion, installation is free on all services.  The exception is that if you need new cable outlets, we will work out a cost for time and materials.

To keep costs within reason, we do our installations consistent with MPOE and shortest-ground-return guidelines and we install surface wiring on the outside.  If you require attic, basement, crawl-space, or other special wiring arrangements, you can pull the wire or have an electrician or other contractor pull it.  If you plan on more than 4 outlets in your house, we may need to make special arrangements to deliver a hotter-than-typical signal to your house.

Internet usage is subject to terms and restrictions, which are intended to prevent illegal activity and to prevent one user from causing disruption to the service of others, whether accidentally or intentionally.  Specifically and simply stated, you can’t do anything illegal including illegal file downloads, and you can’t host your own server at your house on a residential-class service.   You also cannot share your connection with your neighbors (think of it as sharing a plate at an all-you-can-eat buffet.  Not cool.)  Small businesses are eligible for the residential rate.  Businesses doing activities online such as VPN, servers, etc., will pay a negotiated rate.  The foll Terms of Service/Acceptable Use Policy (TOS/AUP) will be posted here, soon.
